I was 'lucky' enough to get the weekend ticket with my friends and we all stood right at the front near the barriers. At the time we thought it would be a good idea as we had previously eaten and been to the toilet so we wouldn't need to move. Its 2pm and the crowds start to flood in, massive groups of people begin to form around the barriers and it all becomes quite enclosed. About 2 hours into the festival, and me and my friend notice a space just behind us where people seem to be going backwards from - at first we thought it might just been people sitting down but no. A boy had passed out. It was about 15 degrees and the sun was blazing down with heavy music playing, even I couldn't stand the heat. The boy was on the floor unconscious with security guards trying to pull him over the barrier but he couldn't stand up. I mean, I thought the day couldn't get any worse.. I was wrong.
After another hour, screams began to echo around the first 4-5 rows of people. I essentially thought it was a bee or a wasp but I think even I was shocked at the real problem. A BLOODY RIVER RAT. A huge rat. In the crowd. At a festival. The security guards were having a mere thinking it was awfully funny. It really wasn't!! Eventually a girl threw the rat over the barrier but was bitten so was taken to the hospital/first aid station to be treated. The security guards then tried to catch the rat, and did - in a box. The man who caught it then got a round of applause from the audience and so did the girl who flung the rat over, hopefully I will never be in that much of a close proximity to a rat, EVER AGAIN!
The festival was fine for the next 3 hours, I met some people I know and it was all fine. Until I started getting a headache, I rang my mum and she came and picked me up as I was also being sick - how wonderful. I think it was due to sunstroke and dehydration since I had only had a bottle of Fanta all day. I then got in from the festival and took off my shoes, where I noticed an off red colour in them. My feet had been bleeding, how wonderful. I guess 10 hours on your feet isn't good for you.
Day 2
I didn't go to the Evolution Festival on the second day as I wasn't prepared to put myself through what I had previously experienced. I woke up with excruciating cramps in my calves and my back, and my feet had swelled up overnight. I had spend £40 on a weekend ticket when I only went one of the days, yet I refused to sell my wristband. Its such a beautiful green colour, I want to keep it but unfortunately school wont allow it so I had to break the clasp to remove it from my wrist.
Despite the river rat, the boy passing out, the mosh pits and being unwell, the Evolution Festivals lineup was great! One of my favourite bands The Lake Poets performed and since they're from Newcastle I was very proud of them! The Vaccines, Ellie Goulding and Rudimental also played on the first day and the second day lineup was just fantastic. Bastille, Jake Bugg and Paloma Faith all played yet I didn't get to see them, curse you sunstroke!
